We have two 3PAR 7000 series. Most Virtual volumes belong to remote copy groups and therefore exist on both 3PARs.
I have noticed that one virtual volume has a Total reserved size of around 1TB on one 3PAR but a Total reserved size of 3.7TB on the other 3PAR. Looking at recent activity I can see no DEFRAG tasks for the larger virtual volume on the 2nd 3PAR. I want to reclaim that additional 2.7TB worth of disk space.
The smaller virtual volume is the Primary volume in the remote copy group. I know from vSphere that only 1TB of space is being used.
I have tried STOP/STARTing the remote copy group.
I have tried running a TUNEVV on the large virtual volume.
The only other thing I can think to do is to delete the Remote Copy Group and then the larger virtual volume. I could then recreate the Remote Copy Group and the virtual volume on the 2nd 3PAR.
Is there anything else I could try before doing that?
I know that DEFRAG are system tasks that cannot be started manually.
Thank you in advance for any advice.
Remote Copy of Virtual Volume is not defragmenting
Re: Remote Copy of Virtual Volume is not defragmenting
Hi, I'd open a case with hpe support to check if all system processes are running. Installing the lastest patch/mc could help as well.
But even if everythings works, reclaiming over 2 TB of space on a 7k will probably take a long time. So if you need that capacity soon, you shpuld consider recreating the vv and resyncing the rc group.

When all else fails, read the instructions.
