Post subject:  3PAR 7400 node 1 failed

We had to shut down the 3PAR 7400 in a controlled manner last night. After power on only 1 node is detected.

We see the following error message on the 3par management console:
Node 1 rescue failed due to an internal communication error. It may be missing or be experiencing hardware issues.

also we have already run the following command: startnorescue -node 1. there seems to be an error when I run the command showtask.

we shutdown the 3par with the following command (shutdownsys halt).

after 15minutes we just turned off the power in the back, because the 3par was never really off.

can you help us`?

PS: if we have to replace the node, what happens to the existing licenses? are they on the system or on the individual nodes?

thx!!!!!!

How is the LEDs looking at node1?

Licenses are linked to the system (not individual nodes) so that shouldn't be an issue.

If orange and blue LED is constant this could be a dead node. I would try and re-seat the node and if it doesn't change I would replace the node (assuming you don't have support contract).

My best suggestion is to connect a serial cable to the node and see what happens when/if it boots....

If not, try and source a replacement.

As long as the node drive is OK, simply move it.

If the node drive is dead, then install that in the old node and do rescue.

If you connect to the node you should see it boot like a normal "pc" or "server" with a BIOS. It would give you some insight if the node is dead (ie not getting any boot screen) or if let's say the node drive is dead.

We replaced the Node with a new one. After the "startnoderescue -node 1" command it took about 30 Minutes. Then we received the error attached. When connecting directly with serial we see that the Node is booting. After trying to configure Network the node freezes. Any ideas?
