3par licenses

Post by nklak »

Hi, I am new at 3par and I have recently receive one storage box with following licenses

3par8200 cli% showlicense
License key was generated on Wed Jun 28 13:11:40 2017

System is licensed for 30 disks.

System WWNBASE/W19 number is 0x1B3C6.

License features currently enabled:
3PAR OS Suite
Adaptive Flash Cache
Autonomic Rebalance
Compression
Smart SAN
System Reporter
Thin Conversion
Thin Copy Reclamation
Thin Deduplication
Thin Persistence
Thin Provisioning (10240000G)
Virtual Copy
VSS Provider for Microsoft Windows

License features enabled on a trial basis that have expired:
Peer Motion Expired on June 29, 2018

I am missing lot of features like adaptive, dynamic, priority optimizations, file persona, RMC, Remote copy etc...

I found this doc on HP site

https://www.dectrader.com/pdf/quickspec ... 64_na.html

it says that with new all-inclusive license model all those features are available. I found this transient license for updating old feature based license model to new all-inclusive for some 100$.

https://www.newegg.com/p/1WK-00NP-005R8 ... klink=true

But I also find opposing information that with transient update only already licenses would update, and I will still be missing features.

Can you help me to clarify what I am getting with this transient upgrade and are there other options, what is best to do?

Thanks in advance and best regards.

you would get Single system all-inclusive with your current license.

Does this mean that I will enable missing features on storage?

Do you advise me to switch to new license model, any drawbacks?

Thanks in advance

I don't see any negative sides of going All-Inclusive. Not only will it give you more features, it will also prevent you from needing new licenses to add more disks.

Only thing that you're not very clear on is how you got a hold of this system. The EULA for 3PAR OS prevents the re-sell of these licenses. So if you got this second-hand from somewhere, you might get into some issues on enabling this license.

When you buy this, you will get an activation key which you need to link to your existing license to get a new license that includes everything. If you don't have that original license from HPE you _might_ get into trouble activating it.

Found all-inclusive licence for 98$. Upgrade done, almost all missing features are now active.
