T400 managemnt links didn't failover

Post by koopa79 »

Morning Guys,

We had a swicth fail over the weekend of which one of the ports went to the management link on 1 of the nodes. We only noticed this morning that we couldn't connect to the 3par, so i've moved that link to another swicth and i can now get on the 3par, but the question is why didn't the link in to the other node take over? its a different switch and the port shows as off, but obviously the 3par only has 1 link on at a time.

Is there any test i can run to see if the other link should work? This connection has been installed since the stone age so i can't guarantee that link ever worked, but i would now like to check it should work?

any advise / tests would be much appreciated.

also on a T400, which node is which from the front? I can see that E0 on the left node from the front isn't on, but E0 on the right node is active.

Dumb question, but, did your switch admin shut the port off?

There are other posts on the forums about how the standby port turns on once an hour and turns back off, which tends to generate some traffic in the switch logs that bothers some admins. My admins contacted me about this behavior and disabled logging for my ports.

Richard,

Thanks for the reply, Yes I checked with the network team and the port wasn't on admin down.

I've since done more checks, and it now looks like it may have been a cable fault. We're about to migrate on to new switches so i'll test the link then.

I was aware of the testing the link every hour, but i think that was just for the 7000 series, and this issue is on a T400

Do me a favor, what version is your T400? I am wondering if its a caused by the hardware model or the software version. We did not notice the issue on our T800 Inserv 2.3.1, until after we upgraded the SP to SP-2.5.2.GA-11.002 and our Inserv to 3.1.1 MU3
