3PAR TPVV - CPG's running out of space

Post by out2getyou »

Hi All,

Have tried 3PAR support, google and other forums but have not had much luck.
I was hoping someone here would be able to assist.

I'm trying to understand how TPVV works and why my 3PAR says its 97% allocated for total CPG usage. I have tried to delete VM's. data, and even virtual volumes but does not seem to make a difference. I ran the unmap command from VMware on some LUNs but didnt reclaim much back. It decreased the reserved space and user used space but does not much with what I have in VMware. Im running VMware 5.5 and 3PAR 3.2.1 (MU3).

I also noticed when I deleted the VV, the unused snapshot under CPG grew from 2% to 5%. How can I reclaim this storage back?

Thanks guys.

A CPG will start out consuming zero space, it will then grow in increments as the VV's inside it demand more space. The allocated percentage figure tells you how much of the size the CPG has currently grown to is left. How much the CPG grows by each time is determined by how many nodes you have in your system.

To see how much useable space is left for your CPG run showspace -cpg cpgname

What will this do?
Can this be done during business hours? The other VV's within the CPG are production LUN's. Will there be an I/O performance decrease will I run this command?

Grow in increments.. what will grow in increments? The allocated space/percentage ?
How do I reduce the percentage left?
What do you mean by Nodes?

Name RawFree LDFree Total Used Total Used Total Used
VVNAME 3002368 2251776 11670272 11670272 1914112 0 16384 7936

This is what I got from showspace -cpg VVNAME ...

Can you translate that to me?

Sorry for being asking basic questions, just trying to understand this.

How do we know whats in the snapshot data to reclaim? i.e. which CPGs?

Forget the percentage free.
It says Nothing.
Think You have a Database with Autoextend in Size.
If You have only 5% free, the dB Extend its Size and than You have 10% free.
And so on.
