Hello,
I have an 8000e which I am setting up for use.
When I put in a SAS HDD, the system is fine, green light, everything sees the disk
When I put in a SATA SSD, the light is amber, and I don't get any recognition
My understanding is that this unit should handle SATA, SAS, HDD and SSD. Is that correct?
Does anyone have any guidance on why the SATA SSD is not recognized? I was hoping to make the entire unit SATA and SSD, is this not possible?
3PAR 8000e SATA Disk Creates Amber Light
Re: 3PAR 8000e SATA Disk Creates Amber Light
No 3PAR system uses SATA drives. You need SAS for the drives to connect to both nodes.
Also you need 3PAR drives, with 3PAR FW formatted at 520 byte sector size.

The seller told me it could take either. That sucks.
I have a Toshiba SAS drive in and its working fine so far, is it a 3par drive or a different characteristic?

showpd -i will show product name and firmware version. If it starts with 3P, it hold a 3PAR firmware.

Re: 3PAR 8000e SATA Disk Creates Amber Light
Looks like you have only JBOD, not actual 3PAR system. You can use this disk shelf as DAS (Direct Attached Storage) and connect it to some server with SAS HBA/RAID card. This Xyratex platform by default handle only SAS drives, but you can buy SATA to SAS interposer and use SATA drives in it. This one fits into 3PAR HDD caddies https://www.ebay.com/itm/202851114164 . But there can be compatibility issue with your HBA/RAID card - need to test various part numbers.
