RAID best practice?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that R5 was recommended for FC and R6 for NL. After upgrading from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 MU3 if I create a new CPG then R6 is the default for FC. Is R6 recommended for FC?

No, it's still raid 5 for fast class and ssd, and raid 6 for NL

Stay away from RAID6 on anything production.
It will produce roughly 50% more back end IO.
(someone probably have the 3PAR numbers?)

The only reason to use RAID6 is the long rebuild and eviction time on a NL drive.
My experience is that is useless for anything but archive.
We had an admin set up RAID6 by mistake on FC and it was really slow,
converting to RAID5 solved our performance problems.

Can anyone give me some documentation on this. We had an HP guy out here stating that R5 should be used for FC and R6 for NL per best practices. I asked him for a copy of it and he still has provided it. If someone has it let me know.

Refer to page 15 of the best practice guide

http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.asp ... pdf#page15

Also states it's not recommended to use raid5 for NL
